Who are you and what project do you work on?
I’m Macarena Lara and I’m the Research Manager of the team. I work on the Ace Yourself and MyESL projects.
What does innovation mean to you?
Innovation is applying creativity to come up with original alternatives or ideas that could help solve relevant issues for society.
What are three facts we wouldn’t know about you?
I lived through a strong earthquake. I have been paragliding. I love milk chocolate (but not with sea salt).
What is your favorite innovative or futuristic piece of media?
I love Ted Lasso, it’s not futuristic but somehow it is innovative because it combines light comedy with deep life messages to highlight how empathy is key in our society.
What do you do outside of work?
I love music, dance, yoga, biking, and art in general.
Where will education be in 5 years?
Education will be more accessible, flexible, diverse, and dynamic around the world by taking advantage of new technologies, curiosity and unpredictable scenarios.

Say hi to the myesl app!
Through interviews and quantitative surveys, we uncovered that students prefer having centralized information. The Erasmus School of Law (ESL) independently got this feedback from their students as well. This is why the MyESL App came to be.
Research was a vital component throughout the entire project, and our findings deemed the pilot successful. In fact, students who used the app were significantly more satisfied with communication at ESL than those who did not. The result? Over 70% of all ESL students downloaded the app!
GOALS
To understand whether centralizing all communication channels in one place would positively affect students’ experiences with finding and receiving faculty-related information.
Achievements
After the pilot, the app was adopted faculty-wide by the Erasmus School of Law, which contributed to over 70% of its students downloading it. Read more here.
Inspired by the positive results of the pilot, the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) also adopted the app.
